General

What is Prairie Spin Collective?

Prairie Spin Collective is a yo-yo and skill toy club for Lincoln, NE. We bring together players of all ages, from total beginners to contest players. Beginners, families, and competitors are all welcome.

Is there a membership fee?

Meetups are free. No dues, no fees.

Do I have to compete?

Not at all. Most people come to hang out, learn tricks, and have fun. Contests are one part of the hobby, not a requirement.

Is it just yo-yos?

No. Kendama, spin tops, diabolo, juggling, poi and other flow arts, and any other skill toy are welcome. Bring what you love.

Meetups

When and where do you meet?

Every Thursday, 6–8 PM. We meet at Riverside Community Center, 500 River St, Lincoln NE. Come and go anytime during the meetup.

Do I need to RSVP?

No. Just show up. If a meetup is ever cancelled, we post it on this site and our social media as early as we can.

What should I bring?

Nothing. We bring loaner yo-yos and other skill toys to every meetup, so you don't need to bring anything. Wear comfortable clothes you can move in.

Can kids come?

Yes! All ages are welcome. Younger kids should come with a parent or guardian, especially the first time.

Getting Started

Do I need to know how to do any tricks?

No. Total beginners are just as welcome as experienced players. We'll help you with your first trick on any toy.

What should I buy first?

Try a few toys at a meetup first, then ask our members. They'll recommend a starter yo-yo or kendama for your budget.

Is it cheating to learn on an unresponsive yo-yo?

No. A landed trick is a landed trick. Classic tricks are worth learning on a responsive yo-yo too, but there's no wrong way to play.

Getting Involved

How do I become a member?

Just come to a meetup. There's no sign-up. If you show up, you're part of the club.

Yes, please. Email hello@example.org or talk to us at a meetup. We always need help setting up, greeting newcomers, and running activities.

Can my organization partner with the club?
