General

What is Northside Skill Toys?

Northside Skill Toys is a skill toy club for Leeds. We bring together players of all ages, from total beginners to experienced players. Beginners, families, and competitors are all welcome.

What do you play?

Kendamas, spin tops, and diabolos. Bring what you love, or try something new with a loaner.

Is there a membership fee?

Meetups are free.

Do I have to compete?

Not at all. Most people come to hang out, learn tricks, and have fun. Competing is up to you.

Meetups

When and where do you meet?

The last Saturday of every month, 13:00–16:00. We meet at Northside Community Hall, 12 Example Street, Leeds. Come and go anytime during the meetup.

Do I need to RSVP?

No. Just show up. If a meetup is ever cancelled, we post it on this site and our social media as early as we can.

What should I bring?

Nothing. We bring loaner kendamas, spin tops, and diabolos to every meetup, so you don't need to bring anything. Wear comfortable clothes you can move in.

Can kids come?

Yes! All ages are welcome. Younger kids should come with a parent or guardian, especially the first time.

Getting Started

Do I need to know any tricks?

No. Total beginners are just as welcome as experienced players. We'll help you with your first trick.

What should I buy first?

Nothing, yet. Try the loaners at a meetup, then ask our members. They'll help you pick something for your budget.

Is kendama loud?

A little. Wooden tamas clack on the cups. We keep play in our space and keep it friendly for the venue.

What kind of floor do spin tops need?

A hard, smooth floor like wood, tile, or concrete. Carpet and grass stop most tops. We meet where the floor works, and we use mats where the venue asks.

How much space does diabolo need?

More than you'd think. Tosses go up, so we play where the ceiling is high and there's room around each player, away from lights and windows.

Getting Involved

How do I become a member?

Just come to a meetup. There's no sign-up. If you show up, you're part of the club.

Can I volunteer?

Yes, please. Email hello@example.org or talk to us at a meetup. We always need help setting up, greeting newcomers, and running activities.

Can my organization partner with the club?

Yes. We're open to venue partnerships, demos, workshops, and sponsorships. Email hello@example.org with your idea.
