Three divisions: 1A: single yo-yo on a string, also run as the Pro division; X Division: multi-style covering 2A, 3A, 4A, or 5A, pick your style. X styles: 2A = looping, 3A = two-handed string, 4A = offstring, 5A = freehand; Sport / Beginner / Junior: welcoming entry-level division for all ages and skill levels. See the Divisions page for full descriptions.

VSYC-26 used the National Yo-Yo League (NYYL) freestyle rules. Judges click Technical Execution on two hand counters, one for landed elements and one for misses, then score four Routine Evaluation categories: Trick Presentation, Performance Quality, Musicality, and Routine Construction. In 1A and X Division, that is 60 points of Technical Execution and 40 of evaluation. Sport / Beginner / Junior flips the weight: 20 points of Technical Execution and 80 of evaluation, with no negative clicks and no major deductions. Each judge’s top clicker score becomes the full 60 (or 20), and final scores are averaged across the judges. In X Division, clicker scores are multiplied by style first (2A ×1.40, 3A ×1.50, 4A ×1.30, 5A ×1.60). In 1A and X, major deductions come off the top: stop −1, discard −3, detach −5. See the Rules page for the full breakdown.

Yes. VSYC is an annual contest, and future contests will follow the National Yo-Yo League (NYYL) freestyle rules more closely. NYYL is the source of truth: if our pages and the NYYL rules disagree, NYYL wins. VSYC-26 already used NYYL scoring. The biggest differences were format: one 2-minute freestyle for everyone in 1A and X, and a combined 90-second Sport / Beginner / Junior division, where NYYL uses prelims and finals and a 1-minute Sport freestyle split by age. Rules for the next contest will be posted on the Rules page before registration opens.

That is an instant disqualification. Sign-up was separate from VSYC-26 registration and handled by Prismatic Stars, on Challonge ahead of time and in person on the day; email Prismatic.stars.art@gmail.com with questions.
