Privacy Policy
Effective: April 2026 · Applies to dmvthrowers.club and VSYC-26 contest registration
DMV Throwers Yo-Yo & Skill Toy Club is a volunteer-run community organization based in Northern Virginia. We collect minimal personal information and use it only to operate the club and its events. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and your rights.
1. Who We Are
DMV Throwers Yo-Yo & Skill Toy Club is an unincorporated community club based in the Washington DC / Northern Virginia / Maryland area. We are not a registered nonprofit. Questions about this policy can be directed to contact@dmvthrowers.club.
2. Information We Collect
We collect personal information only when you actively provide it to us:
- Contact form (dmvthrowers.club/contact.html): Name, email address, and message content. Submitted through Formspree.
- VSYC-26 competitor registration: Name, division(s) entered, payment information processed through PayPal or Venmo, and competition music files.
- Email correspondence: Any information you include in emails sent to contact@dmvthrowers.club or vastateyoyocontest@gmail.com.
- Voluntary donations: Donor name or username as provided through Ko-fi, PayPal, or Venmo. We do not receive full payment details.
We do not use cookies, tracking pixels, or analytics tools. We do not collect information passively from visitors who simply browse the site.
3. How We Use Your Information
Information you provide is used only for the purpose for which it was given:
- Contact form submissions are used to respond to your inquiry.
- VSYC-26 registration data is used to confirm your entry, process payment, coordinate competition logistics, and compile the event program.
- Email addresses may be used to send event updates if you have requested them. We do not add you to any mailing list without your explicit consent.
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.
4. Who Has Access
Your information is accessible only to DMV Throwers club officers directly involved in the relevant activity (e.g., the contest director has access to registration data; the general contact inbox is managed by club leadership). We do not share your information with other attendees, sponsors, or external organizations without your consent.
5. Photos and Video at Events
DMV Throwers documents club meetups and events through photos and video. These may be shared on our Instagram (@DMV_THROWERS), Facebook page, and this website.
By attending a DMV Throwers meetup or VSYC-26, you acknowledge that photos and video may be taken and shared publicly. If you would prefer not to be photographed, please let a club officer know at the event and we will do our best to accommodate that request. For minors, parents or guardians are responsible for communicating any photo restrictions to club staff.
VSYC-26 competitive performances are recorded for judging purposes and may also be shared publicly as contest documentation.
6. Third-Party Services
Our site and operations rely on the following third-party services, each with their own privacy practices:
- Formspree — processes contact form submissions. See Formspree's privacy policy.
- JotForm — may be used for event registration forms. See JotForm's privacy policy.
- PayPal — used for donation and registration payments. See PayPal's privacy policy.
- Venmo — used for donation and registration payments. See Venmo's privacy policy.
- Ko-fi — used for voluntary club donations. See Ko-fi's privacy policy.
- Google Fonts — fonts are loaded from Google's servers; Google may log the request. See Google's privacy policy.
- GitHub Pages — this website is hosted on GitHub Pages. See GitHub's privacy statement.
7. Data Retention
Contact form messages and email correspondence are retained for as long as needed to resolve your inquiry and are then deleted. VSYC-26 registration records are kept for up to one year after the event for administrative purposes, then deleted. We do not maintain long-term databases of attendee information.
8. Your Rights (Virginia VCDPA)
If you are a Virginia resident, the Virginia Consumer Data Protection Act (VCDPA) gives you rights regarding your personal data. Because we collect minimal data and do not engage in data processing for commercial purposes, most VCDPA provisions do not apply to us in the traditional sense — but we honor the following requests regardless:
- Access: You may request to know what information we hold about you.
- Correction: You may ask us to correct inaccurate information.
- Deletion: You may ask us to delete information you have provided.
To make any of these requests, email contact@dmvthrowers.club with the subject line "Privacy Request." We will respond within 30 days.
9. Children's Privacy
Our events welcome attendees of all ages, including minors. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13. Any registration or contact information for a minor should be submitted by a parent or guardian. If you believe a minor's information has been provided without parental consent, contact us at contact@dmvthrowers.club and we will delete it promptly.
10. Security
We take reasonable measures to protect the information you share with us. However, no method of internet transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. We encourage you to avoid sending sensitive personal information (such as government ID numbers or financial account details) via our contact form or email.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as our practices change or as required by law. The effective date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of our site or attendance at our events after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
12. Accessibility
DMV Throwers is committed to making this website accessible to all users. This site is built with static HTML and CSS using semantic markup, ARIA landmark roles and labels, keyboard-navigable navigation, and alt text on images. The site does not auto-play media or use flashing content.
If you encounter an accessibility barrier or have difficulty using any part of this site, please contact us at contact@dmvthrowers.club and we will work to address the issue. We welcome feedback on how we can improve accessibility.
For in-person events, our primary venue (Arlington Central Library) is ADA accessible. If you have specific accessibility needs for a club event or VSYC-26, contact us in advance and we will do our best to accommodate.
